Trams run much more smoothly and predictably, with three times the energy-efficiency of buses and more reliable journey times. They are also greener and last much longer than buses, and can cope better with crowds and bad weather. The reduction in carbon emissions as more people switch to using the Luas instead of buses and cars also means better air quality in the areas that it serves as well as less noise pollution.
Extending the Luas line from Broombridge into Dublin 11 would offer residents a new choice in how they commute to work and travel to the city centre. There would also be the potential to link the Luas line with the Metro North when it passes through Ballymun in the future, further connecting Dublin 11 residents to the rest of the city and the Airport.
